Spells (character is most proficient at casting)

  • Unlocking Charm - Alohomora

Unlocks nonmagical locks. Most magical locks are enchanted to be impervious.

  • Shielding Charm - Protego, Dunbihu, or K'irara

Creates a shield from the caster's wand which deflects jinxes, hexes, and curses. The strength of this spell is directly connected to the skill and talent of the wizard, and stronger versions can protect against very advanced curses - or even reflect failed jinxes back against the attacker. Other advanced uses of the spell include protecting an area from outside harm (Protego Totalum); there are as many advanced variations as there are wizards to think them up.

  • Stinging Hex - Unknown

Causes the victim to suffer an intense and painful stinging sensation, which - much like real stings - causes swollen red welts to appear over the surface of the skin.

  • Episkey - Episkey

A simple healing charm, capable of restoring minor injuries. More serious afflictions require greater magic.

  • Cheering Charm - Unknown

IV - Background

Personality:

  • Honest | Good-natured | Loyal | Forgiving.

The traits that lead him into being sorted into Hufflepuff. David isn’t one to lie to your face and takes pride in being a loyal and reliable friend. He is always ready to forgive and forget and can’t hold grudges for long, even against his rude classmates. He will help at a moment's notice however it is usually David that is the one that requires it.

  • Clumsy | Easily Discouraged | Impatient | Stupid

David struggles with school work. He lacks the brain of a Ravenclaw and the ambition of a Slytherin. He will honestly try his best but when he fails or makes mistakes he is unlikely to try again. He will often give up if he finds something too difficult (which is usually most things).  This has caused him to fall behind his other classmates. David was forced to drop many of his subjects as he lacked the OWLS required to continue with them. He now takes Magical Theory in hopes of improving his magic and do better in class (although he still struggles).

  • Adventurous | Active | Fun-loving

David is constantly looking for something new to do and has a hard time sitting still. He is usually willing to give anything a try (for how long until he gives up varies). This adventurous attitude, however, has gotten David into trouble on more than one occasion. His midnight adventures through the dark corridors of Hogwarts has made him a master of navigation and the Unlocking Charm from using it on the many locked doors that are to prevent students from entering.

  • Foolish | Hot-headed | rash

David has a bad temper and it doesn’t require much to set him off. Difficult classwork will usually result with David giving up and throwing down his textbook and brooding the rest of the lesson and will continue until he calms himself down with his own cheering charm. David has his episodes so often that he has mastered the use of cheering charm and earned the nickname ‘little bull’. However, everyone but his close friends will not call him that to his face because David has the tendency to punch his bullies in the face as he lacks the wit for curses and so he has broken many noses in his time.

  • Cheerful | Funny | Friendly

David loves a good joke even when the jokes are usually about him. He understands that he’s dumb and doesn’t mind other students making fun of his lack of brains and usually will join in the laughter. He is always willing to make new friends or a good chat. He lacks any prejudice.. This has made David a popular banter buddy.

  • Creative | Handy | Manual

Since David lacks brain he has turned to brawn. He is a very hands on kind of guy. He loves creating artworks, making music, climbing and fixing up old motorcycles with one of his dads. His best subjects at Hogwarts are Potions, Herbology and Care of Magical Creatures, simply because they are a hands on experience (He is also good at muggle studies but this is only because he was raised as one). In his muggle school, his best subject by far was music. David has been learning guitar since age 5 and piano since age 8 and so he is almost a master at both. He currently trying out muggle electronic music and is slowly getting the hang of it. He usually spends his summers working at a music store.

Family:

  • Laura Channing - Surrogate Mother, Family friend and a muggle.

  • John O’Connor (née Lynch) - Biological Father, mechanic, ex-military and a squib from pureblood family.

  • Mark O’Connor - Father, police-man and a muggle.

History:

  • early years.

David O’Connor was born on the 23 December 1998 to John and Mark O’Connor, a now married gay couple. He was conceived through artificial insemination with Laura Channing, a family friend, acting as the Surrogate Mother and his father John O’Connor. Mistakenly thinking that he could not have magical child due to being a squib, John O’Connor unknowingly passed on his magical gene and by some random luck, Laura Channing also was a carrier of the gene, causing David to be a wizard. David was born a few weeks than predicted and due his arrival being in close proximity with christmas, David was John’s and Mark’s early christmas present.

David was raised as a muggle in a coastal town of Ireland. His squib father, John, thought it would be best for him to keep the wizarding world a secret from his partner and son due to the discrimination he experienced because of his blood status. David learnt many valuable lessons of respect, acceptance and treating everyone fairly by his fathers who both have faced much hate for their sexuality and heritage during their lifetimes.

David spent his primary education at the british boarding school in which both of his fathers attended and met each other. It came quickly apparent that David struggled with school work early on and he required much support with his education in his early years. On one occasion another boy teased David for being dull witted, in which he retaliated by kicking the boy hard in the face. An angry letter was sent home and David received a heavy telling off by his teacher and parents. Needless to say, the boy never bothered him again and nor did anyone ever tease him again. David found himself becoming quite popular, not only because he was a all round nice young boy but also that his friends also found security from bullies. Some older students even found respect for him.

Although he was terrible at spelling and math quizzes, David found something he could excel in, the arts. He loved music, learning guitar, drawing and painting and so he practiced these skills almost every day.

By age 7 David’s magical abilities started to appear to the shock both of his parents. His father John, realising that he had passed his family's abilities onto his child, revealed his secret of the wizarding world to his partner and son and explained why he had keep it secret in the first place. David was made to swear that he would not tell a soul of his magic abilities but it was difficult to explain to his teacher why his maths test burst into flames on one occasion.

  • First Year

On his eleventh summer, his parents were unsurprised to see an owl arrive to deliver a letter of acceptance to Hogwarts school. They were, however, a bit embarrassed and annoyed that the owl decided to deliver it while they were in the local pub, packed with muggle who all stared at the owl with great interested.

David travelled to London to purchase all his school supplies from Diagon Alley and that day was chosen by a 12¼” long wand of dogwood with a core of unicorn hair. He also left Diagon Alley with a large fuzzy puffskein.

On the 1st of September, David boarded the Hogwarts Express from Platform 9¾ and was sorted into Hufflepuff later that night. David’s friendly attitude made him friends with some fellow students during the journey to Hogwarts, the sorting feast and in his dormitory. David did well in subject like Herbology and Potions but struggled with all the others. Just like the boy from his muggle school, a student thought it would be funny to mock him for “being dumber than a gnome and they are probably better at magic than he is,” when David failed a performing a simple levitation charm when the rest of the class had managed it. This comment lead to a the matron having to repair a broken nose and David losing house points and being landed with a detention in which he had to clean out muck out of old cauldrons. The rest of David school life went along relatively smoothly. He had a great group of friends and only people dumber than himself would even attempt to try to bully him. He found a new hobby of exploring the castle with friends or on a lone venture. He discovered several secret routes and rooms, making him able to navigate around the castle with ease.

His puffskein later escape during this school prior to christmas. David believes it found a better source of wizard’s bogeys and hopped off in the night. For christmas he received a replacement pet, Bo the raven. Unlike the puffskein, Bo has never abandoned David. Instead David actually had a hard time to get rid of Bo as he rather spend his time following David around the castle, squawking loudly, than sit in the owlery like he was supposed too.

  • Second Year

He still struggled with majority of his subjects but his teachers were all willing to help. By the end of year he chose his elective classes for next year and with the help of his Head of House, he selected Magical Creatures and Muggle Studies (by far some of the easiest of the elective classes).

  • Third Year

Third year brought along an early puberty, pimples, stubble and moods. He lost a few friends because of his hormonal emotions.  During this year he had enough teenage angst to master the stinging hex and so his enemies had something else to fear other than his fist. He excelled in his elective classes (although he found Muggle Studies a bit too easy and boring at times) and passed them, along with potions and herbology, with amazing grades.

  • Fourth Year

By fourth year his pimples had cleared up with the help of some bubotuber pus, he was used to shaving every few days and he learnt to not be so moody and repaired the relationships that he had damaged in the previous year.

  • Fifth Year

Fourth year brought along OWLs, stress, romantic interests and a lot more hair.David received his very own motorcycle that had been custom built by his father John for his birthday/christmas present. David honestly studied hard and tried his best during exams but doubted they would be enough.

  • Present (so far…)

David shaved off his hair during the summer and got a job working at a muggle music store, while also trying out making some electronic music himself. His fathers, John and Mark were finally able to marry with the legalisation of gay marriage in Ireland. David received his OWLs results and he did better than he expected and it seemed that studying payed off (yet there has no way he was going to pass transfiguration no matter how hard he tried). His results were an acceptable for astronomy, an exceeds expectations for charms, outstanding in potions, herbology, care of magical creatures and muggle studies, a poor for defense against the dark arts, a dreadful for transfiguration and a troll for history of magic.

Likes

  • Muggle Music - One of his prized possessions is his phone which is full of tracks, old and new, of all varying styles.

  • Nature - He loves taking hikes and exploring the vast grounds of Hogwarts (sometimes even the forest)

  • Herbology, Potions, Potions, Muggle Studies.... - Basically any subject he can actually perform well in, he will love.

  • Motorcycles and Cars - When you have mechanic as a father, you are just bound to love ‘em.

  • Exploring - Hufflepuffs are especially good finders, especially David. His midnight adventures through the castle have gotten him in trouble many times. Like the time they caught him on the roof of the great hall…

  • The cold, wet and muddy - David doesn’t mind bad weather or cold temperatures. In Fact he loves it as it reminds him of home. If it’s Sunny, raining or snowing David will not mind.

Dislikes:

  • Bertie Bott’s every flavoured beans - A horrible experience with these candies in his first year has left a bad taste in his mouth.

  • Hard subjects/Homework - Transfiguration is the bane of his existence.

  • Boastfully intelligent people - He gets it, you're smart. Now leave.

  • Meat - He’s born and raised vegetarian. ‘nough said.

  • Cleaning - He doesn’t mind if it’s messy.

  • Constant winging or complaining - He’s got enough problems of his own and he doesn't care to hear yours.

V - Pets

Pet:

- Name: Bo

- Species: Raven

- Gender: Male

- Personality: Loud | Energetic | Glutton | Show off

Bo needs everyone's attention and loves nothing more than a good pat, therefore he will do anything to get it. If it means squawking loudly, flying around your head, knocking things over or nipping at your finger, he will do it. Bo will also sometimes imitate words in a squawky manner. His favourite term to use is, by far, ‘food’. Bo will scream this out every morning to David when he arrives to the great hall to deliver mail, receive a petting or simply steal half of David’s breakfast before flying back to the owlery (much to the dismay of the other owls). Although he is a rather annoying bird, he is very loyal and loving companion for David. David would hate to live without him.
